Elton John, Married?!

The other sunday, in the wake of the news of England's stance on same sex unions and Elton John's "marriage", while visiting my family I jokingly was saying "So Elton John is a married man now." Later my wife , bless her heart, said to me that she didn't think we should be calling these unions "marriage" rather Elton John got "Civil unioned". Instantly I realized she was completely right in defining it in such terms, we already lose the definition of marriage as we fight against "gay marriage" legislation. The point being that "gay marriage" is an oxymoron. To simply say "gay marriage" is a definitional falacy, like saying "that's a square circle." or "wow the letter F tastes great!". It is a definitional falacy because marriage by definition is between a man and a women, and to say "two men got married today" is an oxymoron.

Since I am on the topic the main way homosexual unions is pushed today is as a "civil rights" issue, comparable to the black civil rights movement. Again this to is falacious, the blacks were being denied rights which whites had and descriminated against. However with the homosexual movement there really is no descriminative denial of rights, I have the same rights a a homosexual, I legally can not be married to a person of my sex either. The movement in support of "gay marriage" is simply couched in civil rights terms to make those who oppose them be classified as bigots. This is standard for today, people don't actually debate issues but throw out buzzwords that carry certin connotations, such as "Fundamentalist, radical, right wing, intolerant, liberal, creationist, religious right...etc". At the heart of the homosexual union movement is not a cry for equal rights but rather a push to redefine marriage altogether.

To conclude to appeal to nature marriage in every culture has been between man and women, wether polygamous or monogomous, cultures without the revelation of biblical testimony have agreed upon the definition of marriage. Ultimately only what God says matter in issues all other judgements are arbitrary and capricious, and I point to the created order of one man and one women, and "For this reason a man shall leave father and mother and be joined with his wife and the two shall become one flesh." (Eph 5, Gen 2) In light of this I wish Elton John and his partner a "Happy civil union."
