Lord's Table

I have been wrestling a bit with the issue of the Lord's table, as a Presbyterian going to a Lutheran university. It has been good and I am more covinced of Calvin's position as I explore the issue, here's my quiz results:

You scored as Calvin

You are John Calvin. You seek to be faithful to Scripture, and to harmonize difficult sayings. You believe that in the Lord's Supper those who have faith are united to Christ, who is present spiritually, yet in a real way.

I am not sure this is a "complaint" but more a comment or two.... .

Jas 1:18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

When I read James here I remember the "word of Truth" that began my sojourning:

"And you shall call His name Jesus, for it is He who will save His people from their sins."

Later on as I have come to understand it, to be a "firstfruits" of His "creatures" in this LIFE/bios, one must have this experience at the "Hands" of God, found only twice described this way in the NT, using this Greek Word: συζωοποιέω
suzōopoieō
sood-zo-op-oy-eh'-o
From G4862 and G2227; to reanimate conjointly with (figuratively): - quicken together with.

Paul is describing what "God Our Heavenly Father does ""for"" us" thus making us a sort of firstfruits of His creatures:::>

Eph 2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us,
Eph 2:5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved--

and here at Colossians too:

Col 2:13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses,

Notice, this "Work" is God's "work" to conjoin us and reanimate us together with Christ Jesus!

These things are to wonderful for me!

LOL, to lighten the smerch on Calvin's record I will say that he pled for Servetus daily to recant visiting him in jail as well as arguing for a mere beheading for Servetus execution mode. Unfortunatly, he did support the execution, this was wrong. But, again it was leftovers of Roman Catholicism (Antichrist) in a culture that was reforming, executing heretics that is.

Bob,
Long time. This is Casey from Mass Theology website. I have not seen or read any post from you in a long time and wanted to express my heartfelt longing to rekindle your passion for the truth. I appreciate your desire for speaking and following the truth. I don't know if you have lost interest in the Mass theology website or not, I hope that you haven't. I enjoy your thorough and though provoking thoughts. I might not agree with a few of the arguments you post, but for the most part I enjoy being able to intellectually discuss these important matters. You have pushed me to better know scripture I and value that. i know that others on the website are extreme liberals and their motto is "whomever screams that loudest wins the fight." I would enjoy if you sharpen your sword again and join the battle for truth. casey

Hey Casey, thank you for your encouraging words. I haven't been over on the Mass Theology page lately for the reason you cited, the dominance of those of a liberal persuasion, I frankly was tired of being shouted down by a pack of individuals everytime I would disagree with their assertions. I am all for discussion and debate but that wasn't really happening. So I figured I would take a break over there, I will show up again though.

The second reason I haven't been too vocal is the fact that I am extremely pressed for time right now. I have barely been putting anything up on my own blog nevermind getting into debates that rage for about a week in comment threads...

But again thank you for your kind words, I will pop back in as soon as I can get time.

Hey Bob,

it's been awhile for me checking your blog (again), and I just wanted to say "hey." I took the quiz and i have to say, there were some funky questions that made no sense to me. Here are my results:

Calvin 56%
Zwingli 56%
Luther 50%
Orthodox 38%
Unitarian 38%
Catholic 13%

I don't even know what Zwingli is, but apparently I had to do a tie-breaker, which pushed me to Calvin. I guess I'll have to google Zwingli and find out who he is.

I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas with your family. Cheers!

Hey Tim,
good to hear from you! Zwingli's view of the Lords table is a memorialist, which means it is purely remembrance. I thought that was an interesting mix you got there 50% of Luther, Calvin and Zwingli.
